About Our Authors

Dr. Kathleen O'Rourke (author of, Disease Investigation) is a professor of epidemiology at the University of South Florida with a specialization in Maternal Child Health research. She has conducted research inlocal and international settings, having received a Fulbright Award to study the impact of traditional birth attendant training programs in Guatemala. She currently serves as a PI on a study evaluating the relationship of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder on pregnancy outcomes among women in the military, and she is the local lead investigator for the Hillsborough County and Orange County Florida sites of the National Children's Study.

Jessica Berumen (co-author of Disease Investigation)has an MPH in Public Health Practice and a Bachelor's degree in Education. Ms. Berumen is employed by the VA working on a national evidence-based research project studying Traumatic Brain Injury in veterans. Her focus is on putting into practice the fundamentals and foundations of public health study.

Dr. David C. LeBlanc (author of, Statistics: Concepts And Applications For Science) is a faculty member at Ball State University in Muncie IN. Former posts include the State University of New York, Plattsburgh State University College, BS
SUNY PSUC, MS Biology, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, PhD Forest Biology.
Research Interests.
General: The relationships between natural and man-made environmental stresses and tree growth, mortality, and forest structure and composition
Specific: Evaluating the impacts of air pollution, climate stresses, global warming, competition, soil fertility on tree growth and mortality. Primary research techniques involve analysis of tree-rings and long-term monitoring of tree and forest conditions.
